Obituary for Hubert Kidd as it appeared in-

Hugh Kidd, resident of this city (Klamath Falls) for 25 years, died Saturday in Portland after a short illness. He was born in Altus, Oklahoma.
For the past 10 years, Kidd was self-employed as a used car dealer. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Elks Lodge No. 1247, and was a past president of the Oregon Independent Automobile Dealers Assoc.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, and daughter, Denise, both of this city; sisters, Mrs. Myrna Evje, Santa Maria, CA; Mrs. Ann Penning, Visalia, CA; and Mrs. Ione Campbell, Frederick, OK.

HONORS FOR 283rd Field Artillery Battalion:

DESIGNATION - 283RD FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION HIGHWAY
Act of Oct. 27, 2010, P.L. 929, No. 94 Cl. 87

The soldiers of the United States Army's 283rd Field Artillery Battalion served with valor and distinction in combat in the European Theater of Operations in World War II. The 283rd Field Artillery Battalion went through 263 combat days and had 13 KIA, about 50 wounded, and 2 men captured. The 283rd was it's own unit, serving where needed most. The battalion was with 15 different infantry divisions by the end of the war. The 283rd field artillery battalion was awarded the presidential unit citation, the meritorious unit citation, and 4 battle stars for Normandy, northern France, Central Europe, and the Rhineland.

After a year of stateside training at Camp Rucker, Alabama, on June 25, 1943, the battalion sailed to the United Kingdom on June 22, 1944, where training continued at Camp Llanover, Wales, before cross-channel deployment.

The 283rd Field Artillery Battalion was part of the historic landing at Utah Beach on August 11, 1944. The battalion fought through France to Berchtesgaden, Germany, during the Campaign for Northern France from August 11 to September 14, 1944.

The 283rd continued combat in the Campaign for the Rhineland from September 15, 1944, to March 22, 1945, and in the Campaign for Central Europe from March 23, 1945 to May 8, 1945 (VE Day).

During the final campaign, the 283rd Field Artillery Battalion took part in the Battle of Bamberg, the Battle of Nurnberg and the Battle of Munich.
